Overwatch's holiday event returns next week with new Mei-focused mode

Just in time for Christmas, another winter holiday event is coming quite soon.

Since the game released in May of previous year, Overwatch has continued to grow its playerbase with new characters, cosmetics, and a continued focus on special limited run events, with the next in-game event to begin right around the holidays.

In the above developer update, game director Jeff Kaplan teased a few heroes that would be receiving new Legendary skins: "two of our favorite junkers", also known as Junkrat and Roadhog, as well as Hanzo, who will be receiving an outfit that has been previously seen in one of Overwatch's comics. We also don't know if this skin is tied to the specific winter event or if it will go into circulation with the normal look boxes.

For all the other winter skins, players should expect them to cost their traditionally inflated prices. All of them can be purchased for a heavily reduced price that falls in line with the core Overwatch skins.

The new mode is called "Mei's Yeti Hunt", and it sees a team of five Meis trying to bring down one super-charged Winston. Players are tasked with hunting him down before his rage sets in. Winston will be running around, eating meat and powering up in Primal Rage special.

All in all, Mei's Yeti Hunt sounds like a blast.

It's that time of year: Overwatch's seasonal event for the holidays, Winter Wonderland, returns December 12 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One, developer Blizzard Entertainment announced today. The game ends with either the Mei's escaping, Winston dying or enough Mei's perishing.
