Nets trade for Jahlil Okafor, reports say

He no longer has to sit on the bench in Philadelphia.

Okafor was traded to the Nets on Thursday along with Nik Stauskas and a second-round pick for Trevor Booker, Zach Lowe of ESPN.com reports. The Nets will release guard Sean Kilpatrick to create roster space for the trade, league sources said. He has only appeared in two games this season, averaging 5.0 points and 4.5 rebounds in 12.5 minutes per game. The Nets fire off the second-most 3-point attempts per game in the National Basketball Association (33.9) behind only the Rockets (44.0).

Both Stauskas and Okafor will be free agents at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Booker and the Sixers will face Okafor, Stauskas, and the Nets on January 31.

Okafor publicly requested a trade or buyout on November 1 and the team declined his $6.3 million team option. This trade allows the Sixers to (somewhat) save face following several ugly months of drama.

Okafor was the third player selected in the 2015 NBA Draft, but never lived up to expectations with the 76ers.

In 2017-18, Kilpatrick has accounted for 4.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.9 assists a game in 183 minutes and 16 games in this his fourth National Basketball Association season. We'll see if Okafor can alter the course of his career with a new franchise.
