In the San Fernando Valley north of Los Angeles, the Creek Fire had blackened more than 11,000 acres and forced the evacuation of 2,500 homes and a convalescent center north of Interstate 210.

The fire erupted before dawn Wednesday on the east side of Sepulveda Pass, which carries heavily travelled Interstate 405 through the Santa Monica Mountains on the city's western side. Many were evacuated from the nearby homes, including Chelsea Handler.

"This area should be ReadySetGo and be prepared for possible evacuation for Skirball Fire in December 2017", a notification on Google Maps read.

"The area had been burned through three years ago in a big brush fire", said resident, Anna Determan, who have lived there for around 32 years.
