Fourteen women were killed at École Polytechnique nearly 30 years ago, simply because they were women.

It's worth remembering that December 6th is also National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women, which was created in direct response to the Polytechnique tragedy.

The stark reality is that half of all Canadian women have experienced at least 1 incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.

The award was given out days ahead of the 28th anniversary of the Polytechnique massacre on December 6.

Victims of violence are also gathering at Barrie city hall on Wednesday night for a ceremony and to remember the Dec.6, 1989 massacre. "It's on every single one of us to help end violence against women and girls".
