Ola driver locks passenger, molests her

In yet another incident which has raised questions over the safety of women, a 23-year-old fashion industry professional was allegedly sexually harassed in Bengaluru by the driver of her Ola cab.

Cab aggregator Ola on Wednesday said it has suspended one of its drivers after a woman from Bengaluru filed a complaint alleging that he locked her up in the auto and misbehaved with her. We have zero tolerance to such incidents & the driver has been suspended from the platform as an immediate action upon receiving the complaint, " an Ola spokesperson told ANI.

Now this is not the first time the incident has been reported against the rental cab drivers harassing and molesting their passengers on board.

"We regret the unfortunate experience the customer had during their ride". However, she did not file a formal complaint with the police, an ANI report said.

The incident occurred at around 10.30 pm on Sunday night.

Asserting that customers' safety is its priority, Ola also asked the customer to lodge a formal complaint with the authorities.

An Ola representative confirmed that after the incident was brought to their attention, and after they spoke to the woman concerned, they temporarily suspended Reddy. "I threatened to break the window, it was only then that the driver let me get out of the vehicle", the victim told TNM.

She then ran few hundred meters until she could find an auto-rickshaw. Following this, she started receiving threat calls from Reddy, the complaint said.

The woman also alleged that the company did not inform her of taking any action against the driver. The frightened girl filed a complaint with Ola after reaching her house, and the driver was suspended. "Unfortunately, the complaint was registered only the next day", she added. Even for the police to take up a suomotto case against the accused, it is important for the police to know the area where the incident took place.
