Lindsey Vonn says she'll represent U.S. at Winter Olympics, but not Trump

"I want to represent our country well".

Vonn told CNN in an interview she would be proud to represent the United States at February's Olympics in Pyeongchang but did not see herself as a representative of the USA government.

"Well I hope to represent the people of the United States, not the president", Vonn told CNN's Alpine Edge in St. Mortiz, Switzerland, where she's competing in a World Cup event to qualify for her second Olympics.

Asked if she would attend any possible White House reception for the US Olympic team after the Games - a common tradition - Vonn replied: "Absolutely not". "No, but I have to win to be invited".

The Vancouver 2010 gold medallist said in a recent interview with CNN that she would decline the Trump administration's invitation if extended to her as a 2018 Olympian.

Lindsey Vonn talks with reporters after her training for the FIS Ski World Cup Women's Downhill Nov. 28, 2017 in Lake Louise, Alberta.

After missing the 2014 Sochi Games with a knee injury, Vonn suffered a broken arm last November that delayed the start of her season until January.

Trump has not yet commented on Vonn's criticism, though he has actively rebuked other athletes since he became president. The fiery rhetoric prompted criticism from dozens of NFL players and even league commissioner Roger Goodell, who said: "Divisive comments like [Trump's] demonstrate an unfortunate lack of respect for the NFL".

The Cleveland Cavaliers star forward LeBron James called the president a "bum" while the Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy went further, calling Trump an "asshole".
