Myanmar Army again denies abuses against Rohingya

Myanmar's army has issued a report forcefully denying they committed atrocities against the Rohingya, the embattled ethnic minority who have fled in their hundreds of thousands across the border to Bangladesh.

"Although the Bengali villages where the engagements took place were burning and women and children were fleeing their homes, not a single shot was sacked on them", it said, adding that 376 "terrorists" had been killed.

Addressing the Rohingya crisis in September, Suu Kyi claimed that "Myanmar does not fear worldwide scrutiny" and that human rights violations would be investigated and "addressed in accordance with strict norms of justice".

The military said that, while 376 "terrorists" were killed, there were no deaths of innocent people.

Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi has come under increasing global pressure to act to prevent further tragedies from occurring.

More than 600,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since late August, driven out by a counter-insurgency clearance operation in Rakhine State that a top United Nations official has called a classic case of "ethnic cleansing".
