Clubbing corruption references: Nawaz challenges NAB court's verdict in IHC

During the court proceedings, Sharif submitted exemption request from November 20 trial due to the going medical treatment of his wife Kulsoom in London. However, she requested the court allow Jahangir Jadoon to represent her in court in case she had to leave the country in case of an emergency.

Judge Mohammad Bashir is hearing the cases after former premier Nawaz Sharif daughter, Maryam Nawaz and his son-in-law, Captain (retd) Safdar reached the court amid tight security.

The court officially began hearing of the NAB references today to record statements from witnesses including Securities and Exchange Commission Pakistan (SECP) officer Sidra Mansur and Federal Bureau Revenue's Jahangir Ahmad.

In her statement, Mansoor revealed that the Hudaibiya Paper Mills audit reports consistently showed Rs494,6000 in the company's accounts for five years between 2000 to 2005.

The hearing was then adjourned until November 22, when four more prosecution witnesses have been summoned.

Earlier, the court had issued perpetual warrants for Hussain and Hassan Nawaz's arrest and separated their trial from other members of the family.

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) filed three corruption cases - Avenfield Properties, Alazizia Steel Mill, Flagship Investment reference - against Sharif family on the directives of Supreme Court of Pakistan in Panama case ruling. He hoped that their struggle would lead to logical conclusion.

Last week, the ousted prime minister was indicted separately in each of the three references.

Orders have also been given to confiscate their shares in six companies. At an earlier hearing, the court also approved Maryam and Safdar's bail in the Avenfiled properties case and ordered them to submit surety bonds worth Rs5 million each.

Its Lahore branch prepared a reference on the Sharif family's Avenfield apartments in London and another against Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for owning assets beyond his known sources of income.
