Jon Stewart Says He's "Stunned" By the Louis CK Sexual Misconduct Allegations

Jon Stewart Says He's

But in the wake of the revelations about Louis C.K., Stewart took the opportunity Tuesday to explain his reaction to the 2016 question. Another comedian and long-time friend of the C.K., Marc Maron, addressed the ongoing scandal on Monday's episode of WTF with Marc Maron, so now it was Stewart's turn.

Stewart noted that the comedy environment has never been kind to women, despite some changes over the years. I try to think of it in terms of-I've had friends who have compulsions, and who have done things, gambling or drinking or drugs, and we've lost some of them.

Oliver was referring to Louis C.K.'s unreleased film I Love You, Daddy, a film that critics say pays homage to Woody Allen.

The former Daily Show host, who says he hasn't spoken with C.K. since the story broke, continued, "So you feel anger at what he did to people". Stewart, a friend and colleague of C.K.'s, who actually had him on as his last guest on The Daily Show, responded that he was "stunned" by the news.

Stewart said that following the podcast taping, he "dug around" to determine if there was any truth behind the audience member's question. "I didn't see the tweets. I'm not that connected to that world".

"I hadn't heard, at that point, of any of it". Stewart said as the crowd laughed, later claiming, "I don't know what you're talking about but I can't really answer". "[An audience member] said, "what do you think about the allegations against Louis C.K.?' My first response, was, 'what?' And then, joke, joke".

"My first response was, 'what?'" Stewart recalled during the Today show interview. "And then, joke, joke, and as he kept going, I was like, 'Look, I know this is very serious, but I know Louis, he's always been a gentleman to me, ' which, again, it speaks to the blindness that I think a man has", he said.

The worldwide distributors are following the lead of The Orchard, which announced it was canceling the film's USA release on Friday, one day after C.K. admitted his accusers were telling the truth.

"No, I haven't", he replied. The comic was scheduled to appear on Night of Too Many Stars opposite Stewart, but HBO cut the comedian's scheduled appearance on Thursday. It features John Oliver, Olivia Munn, Robert DeNiro, Ben Stiller, Stephen Colbert and more.
