David Poisson: French alpine skier dies after training crash in Canada

Poisson fell victim of a crash in his training in the Canadian skiing resort of Nakiska, as preparation for the upcoming World Cup in North America.

Poisson, who won a bronze medal in the 2013 World Championships and had represented France at two Winter Olympics, was training at the Canadian ski resort of Nakiska, west of Calgary, when the accident happened, according to reports.

"Unfortunately, a disgusting incident has occurred", said Matt Mosteller.

After news of the deadly accident broke, heartfelt tributes to the athlete began to emerge online.

"FIS extends its sincerest condolences to the teammates, friends, and loved ones of David Poisson", read a statement from skiing's governing body.

He made his World Cup debut in 2004 at the age of 20, earning his sole podium when he finished third in the downhill in Santa Caterina last season.
