Visitor from Far, Far Away Spotted in Our Solar System

Commenting on the project, he said: "By Wednesday this week it became nearly certain this object was alien to our solar system".

A visitor from interstellar space has likely been spotted in our solar system for the first time ever. If the scientists can find out detail on that object then this will be the first outer solar system object to be observed and confirmed by the astronomers, NASA stated. As per the report, the object A/2017 U1 was detected on 19th October by the Pan-STARRS 1 telescope of the University of Hawaii on Haleakala during the search for Near-Earth Objects for NASA.

"We have been waiting for this for decades".

He explained, "It's always been theorized that such objects exist - asteroids or comets moving around between the stars and occasionally passing through our solar system - but this is the first such detection".

An worldwide team of researchers, led by scientists from Queen's University Belfast, are using powerful telescopes to study the chemical make-up of the small rocky object, which was first identified through a telescope in Hawaii last week.

NASA says astronomers are examining both the ground and space with telescopes to gather more data. It's always been theorised that such objects exist - asteroids or comets moving around between the stars and occasionally passing through our solar system, " Paul Chodas explained in an interview with United Kingdom newspaper The Independant.

For now, the unidentified object is called A/2017 U1.

So far scientists have learned that object, about a quarter-mile (402 meters) in diameter, entered our solar system from the direction of the constellation Lyra, slingshot around the Sun back in September, and is now travelling at 27 miles per second (44 km per second) back out in the direction of Vega. Rob Weryk, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Hawaii Institute for Astronomy, was the first person to spot and identify the object, and notice that there was something peculiar about it.

It's not a threat to Earth, scientists say.

On Oct. 14, the object was at its nearest position to Earth at a distance of around 15 million miles away. As per the rules, this is the first objects of its type ever detected, and its naming will need to be done by the International Astronomical Union.
