Police investigating active shooter report at Howard University

Students at Howard University are being asked to shelter in place. Take precautions if in the area.

The historically Black university tweeted, "This afternoon, we were anonymously notified of a potential shooter on campus". Nonetheless, the school's administrative building has been evacuated as a precautionary measure.

Update Tuesday October 17, 1:21 PM: Police are still sweeping Howard's campus to verify reports of an active shooter. As of right now, police have not found anything. Sixth Street NW is closed from Fairmont Street to College Street, and Howard Place is closed from Georgia Avenue to 4th Street.

The potential shooting incident at Howard University comes just a week after John Edgar Rust was arrested and charged with making racist threats to kill African Americans at Howard University.
