Amazon Wants To Hire 120K Workers For The Holidays

Amazon said it is creating more than 120,000 positions at its USA network of fulfillment centers, sortation centers and customer service sites for the holiday season and more than 1,500 of them will be in CT, according to a local public relations agency.

Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced today that it is creating more than 120,000 positions this holiday season across 33 states in the U.S., which is exactly the same number of holiday season hires the company made a year ago.

This will help those who are suddenly out of job or needs a little extra income in the last few months of the year.

As a result, several USA retailers, including Macy's Inc and Kohl's Corp, have been focusing on their online businesses and have ramped up hiring seasonal workers to man their distribution centres that support online operations.

Overall, U.S. retailers are expected to hire 25,000 fewer workers this holiday season, the National Retail Federation said, citing strong staffing levels and companies such as Wal-Mart offering existing workers more hours rather than adding temp workers. Here are all the details. The company will be hiring in 33 states. It also said it expects to convert thousands of these positions to full-time roles.

This year's seasonal hiring for Amazon is about the same number as last year, even though industry surveys predict that customers will be buying more this year than last year.

Target also plans to beef up its workforce with 100,000 holiday workers and Macy's is hiring 80,000.

J.C. Penney has set a target of hiring 40,000 workers at a one-day hiring fair set for 17 October.

Amazon is gearing up for the holidays, and plans to hire 120,000 temporary US workers to help it fulfill the millions of orders coming its way.

The company employs about 125,000 full-time workers.

This forecast includes online shopping, which is expected to accelerate its pace of growth to 11-15 percent to about $140 billion.
